Our second-grade students had an amazing time competing in Olympic games! 🏅 As part of their Core Knowledge in Language Arts, they explored ancient Greece—discovering the city-states of Sparta and Athens, the roots of Greek democracy, fascinating mythology, and philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.

🎃 Halloween is creeping up in just two weeks! We’re excited to have our Halloween Parade on Friday, October 31! 👻 Please take a moment to read the important information from our principal regarding costume guidelines and parade details. Some classes may also be hosting parties throughout the day, so be sure to check in with your child's teacher for more information. Let’s make this a fun, safe, festive celebration! 🕸️✨

Letter From Principal:
Dear J. A. Taylor Elementary Parents, Our Joint Staff School Committee (JSSC -representative school employee leadership team) decided again this year to hold a student Halloween costume parade. We held a successful parade for the past few years and felt we could again rely on students and families to be “Safe, Kind, and Reliable.” Our Halloween Parade will happen first thing in the morning on Friday, October 31. We plan to begin by 9:10 and expect the parade will last about 20 minutes. Students will parade for each other indoors and will parade for parents outdoors, next to the building around the playground courtyard. We would like parents and guests to keep about 10 feet clear of the exterior walls of the school, where students will parade. For those who choose to participate, please have the students come to school on October 31 dressed in their costumes. They will need to remove their costumes after the parade. Students who choose to not dress up may choose to walk with their class in the parade or wait in another location until the parade concludes. Classes may have class parties later that day. There are a few guidelines that must be followed -basically, keep things fun and positive for everyone. Please avoid potentially offensive costumes from ethnic or cultural groups, those which may cause political or other controversy, and avoid extreme gore, masks, and extreme costume makeup. School dress standards still apply: https://taylor.davis.k12.ut.us/o/taes/page/policies . Costume guidelines may be found here: https://tinyurl.com/mrye48rb . We appreciate your support and working together to create a positive school experience and memory for the children.
Thank you, Dr. Denhalter, Principal

Our 5th graders had an awesome field trip last week to Junior Achievement BizTown! This immersive experience combines classroom learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town, allowing students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and even vote for mayor! Through this hands-on learning, our students connected their classroom lessons to real-world applications.

By participating, they learned about their roles as citizens, workers, and consumers, the importance of citizen rights and responsibilities, and developed essential money management and business skills. JA BizTown supports national and state standards in reading, math, social studies, and career readiness. What an amazing way to prepare our students for the future!

Today, our 3rd, 4th, and 6th graders were treated to a visit from a special guest author! 📚 He shared his elementary school experiences and how they shaped his love for reading and writing. The students were captivated by his storytelling! A huge thank you to Frank L. Cole for inspiring our young readers!

There is an event tonight at Roy High School from 5:30-7:30 pm with Frank. L. Cole and other authors. There is a book giveaway from 5-5:30 pm, the show starts at 5:30 and then book signing at 6:30 pm. If you are able, I'm sure that Mr. Cole would love to see our Taylor Mustangs there.

Our kindergarteners are learning about the senses, and they had a special guest! 👀✨ We were honored to have a student's grandfather, Dr. Smith from The Vision Smith, visit and share his expertise. He demonstrated the tools used during eye exams, discussed the anatomy of the eye, and shared the importance of eye health providing valuable insights for our young learners. Our 4th graders recently enjoyed a fantastic field trip to the Utah State Capitol building! 🏛️✨ This experience enriched their social studies curriculum as they explored the architectural significance and symbolism of the Capitol. Highlights included the stunning Rotunda, the Hall of Governors, and beautiful artwork throughout the building. These immersive experiences foster a deeper understanding of civic responsibility and connect classroom learning to real-world applications, making history engaging and relevant for our students.

Our 5th graders recently went on a field trip to the North Davis Sewer District as part of the Davis Goes Green program! 🌍💧💚 This initiative promotes understanding of water and waste management in the Davis School District and surrounding areas. Thanks to partnerships with the Weber Basin Water Conservatory, Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District, North Davis Sewer District, and Davis School District, our students got to learn directly from experts about how water is cleaned and waste is managed. The field trip aligns seamlessly with our science curriculum, providing relevant, real-world scenarios that enhance our students' understanding of their environment.

Taylor Elementary School has a DEEP enrichment group. Students who are identified (based on standardized test data and teacher input) are put into pull-out groups that meet 1-2 times a week with our DEEP Specialist, Mrs. Brandenburg.

Davis School District has DEEP Magnet School where identified students (based on Cognitive Ability Test and standardized test data) have a full-time placement in a DEEP class to explore content in greater depth and complexity. This additional depth and rigor can help these academically advanced students.

Applications for testing for the 2026-2027 school year is happening now through January 31, 2026. Taylor Elementary is not a DEEP Magnet School, so if your student qualifies, guardians will need to provide transportation to one of the nearest Magnet Schools: Bountiful, Valley View, West Bountiful, or Centerville Elementary School.

Please go to the DEEP website for FAQs, other information, and to apply: www.davis.k12.ut.us/page/deep-davis-enhanced-education
